What is Google Caffeine?

Posted August 13th, 2009 in Search Engine News by admin

On Monday, August 10, 2009 Google launched its “next-generation infrastructure” in googles words “It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions”.

What is Google Caffeine?
In a nutshell it is a rewrite of the Google indexing system.

How is Caffeine different from the current Google search engine?
The formula itself, in some ways, has changed. Google engineers have actually rewritten parts of the search engine’s infrastructure. Of course, Google isn’t disclosing exactly what has been altered, but in a nutshell, search results show up faster and in a somewhat different order. The difference may or may not even be noticeable to you.

Will this affect my search results?
Google has said that it should not affect them majorly.

Pontifex Media: I would expect to see them move slightly but only a few places. Just a waiting game folks.

Is that all there is to it?
Pretty much. Google does say, however, that Caffeine isn’t finished, and the code will change over the coming weeks.
